Nebraska Ave 2County Rd Z Station

The Monroe County Climate Change Task Force’s goal is to implement real-time monitoring devices throughout flood-prone watersheds.  Currently, there are twenty four (24) stations established in the Kickapoo River, Little La Crosse River, Baraboo River and Coon Creek watersheds.

The monitoring stations are equipped with water level pressure sensors and cameras to monitor stream levels.  There are also four (4) rain gauges collecting precipitation data. Displaying rain data publicly is still under development.

Monroe County is cooperating with the National Weather Service field office in La Crosse, WI to display monitoring data through a public webpage.  This data-sharing partnership will also provide data to the National Weather Service for hydrology monitoring and forecasting while providing real-time data to the public.

National Water Prediction Service

The stations are registered to the National Water Prediction Service and provides hydrographs of the observed data with defined flood stages.

This project was funded by the following grant programs: Fishers and Farmers Partnership, FEMA Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC), FEMA Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP), and WI Department of Health Services Environmental Health Capacity (EHC) grants. Local matches were provided by Monroe County and local donations collected by the Kickapoo Valley Association.
