MISSION STATEMENT

Mentoring young adults to serve their communities by providing knowledge, skills and practical experiences through education and training delivered by public safety professionals that build character, physical fitness and respect for the rule of law.

The Sheriff's Cadet program introduces young adults to the field of law enforcement and to give them a better understanding of this possible career choice.  This program also fosters responsibility in the members and gives them motivation to do well in school as well as become active community members through community service.  The group provides a positive place for our young adults to grow and socialize.

What Happens at Meetings:
The Monroe County Cadet Program meets once a month on the first Tuesday of each month from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM.  The meetings are currently overseen by Mentors and will eventually be overseen by Cadets that are selected into the program's command staff positions.

The monthly meetings are broken up into two parts. The first portion of the meeting handles everyday business. Topics may include finances, training and upcoming events.

The second portion of the meeting is training. Training topics include professional communications, ethics, traffic stops, firearms, tactical response, defense and arrest tactics, emergency vehicle operations and many other aspects of law enforcement.  Not only will the Cadets be trained in law enforcement specific topics but will be integrated with corrections, firefighters and EMS.  The training events will be held in various locations throughout Monroe County and conducted by certified instructors. This training is then used to participate in local, state and national competitions against other Cadets and Explorer Posts from other law enforcement agencies. These skills also form base knowledge for the Cadets to build on once they start their career.

What the Cadets Can Do For Our Community:
The Cadets will be expected to be visible in the community and participate at events such as festivals, parades and other community events. Some of these events include:  Tractor Pull, National Night Out, Cranfest and the Monroe County Fair. Additionally, the Cadets will interact with the citizens of Monroe County and will seek out opportunities to make the community a better place to live. The training that the Cadets receive will provide them a better understand what emergency responders go through on a day-to-day basis.
