About the program

  • Monroe County Land Conservation Department started the program in 1998
  • The goal is to protect and enhance our cold water streams and foster a healthy fishery
  • Over 100 landowners have participated in the program
  • The program provides public fishing opportunities. In exchange, the landowners get stream restoration projects funded at 90%+ by the county, and maintenance at no cost.
  • All stream restoration projects on easements include habitat for trout and non-game species

Easement Rules
  • The Easement extends 33’ on each side of the stream (or up to the participating landowners property line)
  • Travel is limited to foot traffic only
  • Only fishing is allowed in the easement areas, all other activities require landowner permission
  • The easements are on private property, please be respectful
