Mission Statement: By providing intensive monitoring, individualized treatment and comprehensive services to substance dependent OWI offenders we seek to enhance public health and safety for the community and enable participants to break the cycle of addiction and reduce recidivism.
The Monroe County OWI Treatment Court is a specialized court program that provides services to felony OWI 5th, OWI 6th, and qualified OWI 4th offenders who are at a high-risk for reoffending and have alcohol and/or other drug dependency problems. OWI Treatment Court takes a non-adversarial approach with a multidisciplinary team comprised of a judge, prosecutor, defense attorney, law enforcement, community corrections, court coordinator, case manager, and treatment service professionals. The relationship between the treatment community and the criminal justice system. Treatment Courts are used across the country and are considered by the National Association of Drug Court Professionals as the single most successful intervention in helping lead individuals with substance use disorders out of the criminal justice system.
Important components of the OWI Treatment Court program include comprehensive evidence based practices such as offender screening and assessment of risk, needs and responsivity, judicial interaction, intensive monitoring (e.g., drug testing) and supervision, graduated sanctions and incentives and treatment and rehabilitation services. Support from stakeholders representing law enforcement, the family and the community is encouraged through participation in hearings, programming and events like graduation.
