Crisis Intervention Services are provided to individuals 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. If needed, a mobile response may be provided in homes, police departments, hospitals, schools and other community locations.
Anyone may face a mental health crisis. A crisis is a period of intense difficulty or instability that can't be resolved without the help of trained professionals. A mental health crisis may mean experiencing suicidal thoughts, but this is not always the case.
What Happens When You Call Northwest Connections?
Northwest Connections will provide callers with a risk assessment, intervention and safety planning targeting an individual’s needs, apply the least restrictive treatment approach, and utilize the continuum of resources available within the community.
Mental Health Emergency Services include:
- Telephone crisis intervention
- Individual and family crisis assessment/interventions
- Coordination of admission to a crisis stabilization facility or hospital, if necessary
- Mobile on-site may respond to crisis situations to assess risk to self or others
Crisis Services include conducting an initial assessment and developing a response plan with the individual in crisis. It may also include crisis counseling, follow-up and linkage with other needed services, developing a crisis plan, and in some cases, receiving crisis stabilization at a community facility or hospitalization.
There is no cost to individuals who utilize our crisis services. We will seek reimbursement from Wisconsin Medicaid programs if applicable, but we will not bill any other insurances or charge the individual.

The mission of the Monroe County Department of Human Services is to serve people, with an emphasis on Monroe County residents, by empowering participant responsibility and choice toward safe and independent lifestyles through the delivery of services in response to assessed needs.
We intend to achieve this mission through providing public awareness, resource and referral information, economic support, and direct provision of services in a fiscally responsible manner.
